Eco-Waters: Cultivating Aquaculture's Future with Sustainable Practices
Project Sustainability
The AQUADEVBUS Project is designed to achieve long-term sustainability by embedding its outputs, innovations, and partnerships within participating higher education institutions and the wider aquaculture ecosystem. Project outcomes—including modernized curricula, teaching materials, pedagogical approaches, digital resources, and quality assurance mechanisms—will be institutionalized within regular university programmes. Capacity building will create a pool of trained lecturers, researchers, technicians, and academic leaders who can continue implementing and improving project innovations while serving as trainers of trainers for future staff and students.
Sustainability will also be strengthened through digital innovation, research, industry partnerships, and regional collaboration. Digital twin technologies, platforms, and learning resources developed through the project will provide a foundation for continued teaching, research, simulation, and aquaculture value-chain innovation. Stronger linkages with industry, government, professional organizations, and development partners will support internships, joint research, technology transfer, entrepreneurship, and graduate employment, while partnerships among institutions in Kenya, Finland, Norway, and the wider East African region will facilitate continued knowledge exchange, academic mobility, joint research, and collaborative funding opportunities.
Financial and environmental sustainability will underpin the continuation and scaling of AQUADEVBUS achievements beyond the project period. Participating institutions will pursue diversified funding through competitive grants, government and industry support, consultancy, professional training, and other income-generating activities to maintain project innovations and infrastructure. At the same time, the project will promote environmentally responsible and climate-resilient aquaculture, efficient resource use, circular production systems, and inclusive development. Ultimately, AQUADEVBUS aims to ensure that its achievements become institutionally owned and continuously developed, creating lasting impact on aquaculture education, research, employment, food security, and sustainable development in Kenya and East Africa.
